Window glass can be damaged by the weather, birds or an impact with a child’s toy. While they often crack or break, at times the damage is only a small chip that can be repaired with a windshield glass repair kit.
Also, if you have small chips in your window glass and don’t want to replace the window just yet, use a bit of clear nail polish to fill in the chip temporarily. Coat the area with thin layers until you’re satisfied with the result.
Those tiny little ledges can get unsightly with dust and dirt pretty quickly. Here are the easiest way to get them clean with these four simple steps.
1. Vacuum
Use the brush attachment on your vacuum to remove dirt and dust from the surface of the baseboards. Be sure to clean the crevice between the bottom of the baseboard and the floor. If you don’t have a vacuum, use a small whisk broom.
2. Wipe
Once you’ve removed the dust, you’re ready to clean the stuck-on dirt and stains by rubbing them with a dryer sheet after cleaning them. When you’re done, dry the baseboards with a clean towel. Leaving water on them could damage the wood.
3. Clean the Crannies
Use a cotton swab dipped in the cleaning solution to clean the top of the baseboards and the crevice between the bottom of the baseboards and the floor.
4. Protect
Keep your newly clean baseboards dirt-free for as long as possible by rubbing them with a dryer sheet. Yes, a dryer sheet. This prevents the static that attracts dust.
Keep drapes off the floor
Long curtains can puddle elegantly on the floor or hang sloppily like overly long pants, depending on the fabric and the amount of excess. Sometimes, a radiator, headboard, window seat or counter affects how long your curtains can hang. Explore creative ways to change the length that your curtains hang from the floor.
If your drapes touch the floor, they will collect more dust and other debris, making them require cleaning more often.
Keep the walls clean
Spot clean your walls whenever something spills onto them, but also make sure you wipe down the walls once a year. This will reduce grime buildup over time that can be difficult to remove.
Window glass tends to be cleaner on the inside than on the outside. If you clean the outside first, you’ll be bringing dirty cleaning supplies in to finish the job on the inside.
Clean blinds easily
The method you’ll use to clean your blinds depends on how dusty or dirty they are in general.
Start by closing the blinds and gently wiping them down with a microfiber cloth, moving from the top of the blind down. (For horizontal blinds, wipe from side-to-side.) Adjust the blinds to open them, and run the microfiber cloth over them again. Then close them the opposite way and repeat.
Vacuum up any dust and debris with your vacuum attachment.
If you’ve got stuck-on dirt or stains, mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water. Pull a clean sock over your hand and then dip the sock into your cleaning solution. Wring it out until the sock isn’t dripping wet.
With the sock covering your hand, use your fingers and run them over each blind blade tightly. Leave the blinds open to dry thoroughly.
